WHAT TO EXPECT

To help prepare you, we've put together a list of things to keep in mind when coming to class!

What to bring

  • Swimsuit and Towel
Be prepared for a simple swim test on the first day of class to make sure you're comfortable in the water.  Life jackets will be worn.  We also have swim breaks during class!  It's also best to dress in layers so if weather changes you're prepared.

  • Life Jacket
Life jackets must be worn at all times.  AYSC provides them, but if you have one you're comfortable in please feel free to bring it to use during class!

  • Closed-toe Shoes
It's easiest to move around in boats and on the dock with closed-toe shoes, so we insist that they're worn at all times.  Sandals are easy to get lines caught in, but water shoes are a great option!

  • Sunscreen
There's a lot of sun exposure being out on the water for three hours, so make sure to wear sunscreen.  The last thing you want to do is get sunburn!

  • Water

Hydration is important when spending time on the water out in the sun so make to bring a water bottle!

Where to go

  • Thunder Bay River Class

Located behind the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary building along the Thunder Bay Maritime Trail.

  • Grand Lake Class

Located at the Presque Isle Harbor Association Grand Lake Beach property.
